These are the things that really spoke to me out of Chapter 8. John 8:11 [Jesus speaking to the adulterous woman, in response to the Jews desire to stone her for her sin]"Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin." in conjunction with this verse 8:15 [now speaking to the Jews] "You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one." I know if you read the whole section 8:15 may seem a little out of context but I really heard something in these, so hear me out. How often do we judge people for their sin (or often even worse, just due to difference of culture, appearance, etc)? Jesus said [and acted accordingly with the adulterous woman] "I pass judgment on no one". The Jews wanted to stone the woman as was acceptable according to the Law of Moses. In looking at it in terms of how we should deal with others I see it like this. We should not judge them, however here is the part that I think is often forgotten: "Go now and leave your life of sin.". I think this is also referenced and often overlooked in Matthew 7:4 - 5 "How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." I think the part that is overlooked is the "then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.". We are called to not pass judgment however we are called to help others lead a life holy and pleasing to God. Hopefully this is helpful to someone.

Wow! Sermon! Good stuff. I totally agree with the plank passage. I've preached that we ARE to judge (and by judge I mean hold accountable) those who claim to be Christian. If they aren't Christians, then one, it's not my job to judge them, and two, I don't expect them to act like one.

Good stuff. Thanks for writing all that out.
